| Coordinate measuring machines in the cantilever type are only suitable for small measuring ranges, since the projecting part of the column must have short length due to its rigidity. Owing to the large supporting base of the column and its low weight, these measuring machines allow high accelerations and speeds to be achieved. The measuring machines of the cantilever type have small measuring uncertainties, due to the arrangement of the measuring systems, in which Abbe's comparator principle has been observed as much as possible.
