The term quality is continually being used in every company. It is, however, not always clear what quality exactly means. This is why this unit starts with a definition of terms:
  
  • Quality: (Definition according to ISO 9000:2000) Degree to which a set of inherent features meets the requirements.
       
  • Quality: (simpler definition) Quality is meeting the customer's expectations.
      
  • Quality management: (ISO 9000:2000) Synchronized activities for directing and guiding an organization with respect to quality.
       
  • Quality management system: QM System (ISO 9000:2000) Management system for directing and guiding an organization with respect to quality.

  • Quality assurance: (ISO 9000:2000) Part of quality management aimed at generating confidence in meeting quality requirements. 
       
  • Quality testing:: (DGQ 1993) Defining to what extent a unit meets the quality requirement.
