Basics of Coordinate Metrology
Unit 13:  Accuracy

Step 1 of 8

Learning target: After finishing this unit, you will know different manufacturing processes and have a feeling for the manufacturing inaccuracies to be expected. You will understand the typical deviations caused by manufacturing processes; know how to interpret the manufacturer's specifications regarding the accuracy of the CMM and the principle of CAA correction. You will be aware of the measurement uncertainty and know the qualitative effects on measuring uncertainty.

This unit familiarizes you with the manufacturing accuracy and the effects on measuring uncertainty that significantly affect the measuring accuracy.

An overview of the three basic requirements of measuring and of different manufacturing processes is here.
This is followed by a discussion of the attainable manufacturing accuracies.
Next the accuracy of coordinate measuring machines will be described.
In this context, the length measuring uncertainty is of great importance.
The unit is concluded with a repetition of the effects on accuracy already dealt with in previous chapters and
the summary.
