Before the measurement with the coordinate measuring machine (and the stylus qualification, which must be carried out even prior to that, see next chapter) can be started, a few last steps have to be carried out.
- First, the guideways of the coordinate measuring machine must be cleaned, to prevent the dirt deposits in the guideways from resulting in measuring uncertainty.
- Then, before the actual start of the measurement (and
of the stylus qualification), the coordinate measuring machine must be
homed in order to synchronize the controller and the CMM.
Tip: Keep the controller always switched on, since the electronic components are also subject to a thermal drift.
 Accident prevention: Never start the CMM on your own, there must always be a second person in the room
(German law). During the travel movements of the CMM, there is a risk of
accident. Hence: The Emergency Stop button must always be within reach!
